Any chance that you could upload the source to GitHub or Bitbucket ? It would make it easier for people to send patches.

Would it be possible to assign two joystick buttons to one and the same Amiga button/direction?
I am more used to console gaming and prefer having a button for jumping instead of pressing up on the d-pad. I managed to configure it that way, but there is a problem when a game changes gameplay style. A good example would be Turrican 2. All works smoothly in the “normal” levels, but then the game switches gears in the shmup levels and now a button for “up” does not work that well anymore :-).

Any chance to fully support rp9 files in the FS-UAE Launcher? Currently rp9 files are handled like zip files without handling the rp9-manifest.xml, which feels a bit like a missed opportunity to make the configuration more automatic. The launcher could also display the extras data (screenshot, audio, help).

Are the boxart & screenshots downloadable beforehand? I have an old zip, extracted to the fs-uae’s cache folder, but it doesn’t seem to help.
Also having issues from loading the A1200 kickstart within the arcade emulator (whdload maniac mansion) – even though it works from the launcher….

Oh, and saving state? Has this been sorted for whdload yet – without spazzing out?

Hi Frode, after hours of testing and configuring with the “Custom Input Mapping” function I came to the conclusion that the action “action_pause” isn’t working. Is there a possibility to map the Pause Key to a joystick button ? This would be very comfy to have ;-)

Btw…Is there an up-do-date list with all *supported* actions by FS-UAE ? Thank you for your work ! Jens

Hi! This is just a question out of curiosity…I saw that when building FS-UAE from source, it is necessary to have libSDL. But why?
As far as I remember, SDL is yet another sound architecture like ALSA or PulseAudio, and thus independent of the last two. Or you might as well say, even though my Ubuntu is working perfectly with PulseAudio (unlike some others), FS-UAE will not utilize it but bake its own cake again.
Unless I’m wrong…

P.S. BTW, great job with this emulator! You could say UAE has found its way back to Norway :) The young whippersnappers will no longer remember; but it was actually an university in Norway that hosted the official UAE forum! That is now…17 years ago. I’m not kidding.

Yes, you are actually wrong :) SDL isn’t used for audio in FS-UAE but for window management and mouse/keyboard/joystick input. FS-UAE could have used SDL for audio too, but instead it uses OpenAL.

Btw, comparing SDL to ALSA doesn’t make sense. The point of FS-UAE using OpenAL (and the same point if it had used SDL) is that the same audio code can then be compiled for Linux, Windows, OS X, BSD, etc – instead of having to code for ALSA *and* DirectX *and* CoreAudio (etc). So SDL (audio) isn’t supposed to be *better* than ALSA or PulseAudio (the latter is also a wrapper on top of ALSA), but cross-platform!

OpenAl will work as a layer on top of ALSA or PulseAudio. If it does not work as you’d like, perhaps you should try to tweak an OpenAL configuration file as briefly described on this page :)

Yes, you are quite right that several of the actions listed are not working. The list is based on the available input actions from the WinUAE code -and not all work in FS-UAE. The list should definitively be washed (and action_pause specifically supported too). I just haven’t gotten round to it yet.

Hi, perhaps you extracted it “wrong” so you got one folder too much? The zip on http://oagd.net/download is relatively recent, and should give you box art and screens for most games. But just make sure it extracted correctly. Oh, and it is possible the images are only picked up by the development versions of FS-UAE…

Saving state in WHDLoad games haven’t been worked on yet. Regarding the A1200 kickstart problem, I need more information, perhaps create a thread on the support forum?

Hi, there hasn’t really been much demand for .rp9 support, I think you’re only the second person to mention it. But it is possible I can have a look at it during the 2.5.x development series (which will soon begin). I have registered an enhancement ticket for it here: http://fs-uae.net/trac/ticket/14.

Yes, you can have both D-PAP up mapped to Amiga joystick up, as well as any number of other buttons at the same time. Infact, if you use the joystick config tool which is a part of FS-UAE Launcher, you’ll get a setup like this automatically. The “east button” is mapped to Amiga joystick up by default, and the “north button” is also mapped to fire along with the “south button” – so you can move your fingers from south/west (fire/2ndfire) to east/borth (jump/fire).

FS-UAE doesn’t seem to know the difference between device labels and volume labels.
On my real Amiga, I had a hard drive partition with the device label hd0: and the volume label WorkBench:. I could refer to the partition with either hd0: or WorkBench:. E-UAE also allows me to do this.
FS-UAE doesn’t. It’s either hd0: or WorkBench:, not both. The partition’s files are in a directory called hd0 on my Linux PC’s hard drive. If I leave the option “hard_drive_0_label = WorkBench” out, I get a System Request asking me to insert volume WorkBench: in any drive. If I put it in, I get a System Request asking me to insert volume hd0: in any drive.
For such a great, fast and usable Amiga emulator, FS-UAE is woefully ignorant of the most basic facts of Amiga filesystems.

Hi first off all I want to thank you for creating such a fantastic frontend, the menu in game , the cover art and screenshots is what I’ve been looking for a long time to get that proper amiga experience, I originally used lemon amiga which was great, then amiga forever but did not like the layout, colours ect lack of ingame menu although I appreciate the hard work that has gone in to it.
Anyhow, a few questions, I’m quite experienced with emulators I have managed to scan all my rom folders ect and the amiga database and got lots of titles on fs-uae launcher, however having read your documents and google i’m at a loss how to manually add games to this player eg there are several games that after running my scan did not get added to my games and configurations, Could you please give me a walk thru and examples, Am I suppose to edit a existing config file then save it? I’m confused what should I be writing in the config file?

Sorry about this but in an ideal world I would just use your front end and nothing else it’s really that good!

Two improvements I would like to see- 1) the ingame menu is fantastic and I’ve mapped my controller to access this from its start button, is there anyway you could build in warp mode in to the ingame menu or map a button on the controller to do it ?

2) Have you considered making the launcher play a sample of the games music when you highlight a particular game within the menu? I feel this will enhance the amiga experience even further!

Thanks for your time, looking forward to your response

Wow, the hard drive issue under workbench is terrible. If a utility can create a hard drive file that the operating system can’t detect…… we’ll that kinda shorty work right there.

Fooling workbench to detect an empty hard drive is not a feature… its just broke

Hi, and sorry for the late reply. I appreciate that you like the package I have put together, especially since you obviously have tested the alternatives :)

The “Game Database” and “Local Configurations” live quite separately within FS-UAE Launcher. There isn’t any way of adding “local games to the database” as such, but:
* You can create a local configuration for a game. It is possible to add images to those.
* If there’s games missing from the online database, you can also request new games to be added.

Being able to add local games to the “game database” is probably something I will look at in the future (and also probably being able to override game database configs with local changes). But for now, the effort is directed at making the online database itself as good as possible.

Music in FS-UAE Launcher is something I can consider. It isn’t on top of the priority list, and it would require that the online database gets support for it, and that interested people upload music to game entries.

It should already be possible to map warp to a gamepad button, with a bit of manual trickery, for example: joystick_0_left_shoulder = action_warp
See Custom Input Mapping for more information and examples :)

One tip (since the installation takes quite a bit of time) is to enable warp mode by pressing F12 + W during the installation.

Thank you for the guide Frode, it worked nicely :)
