Many thanks FrodeSoheim, I’ll wait for the autopause function.
Your above instructions don’t work, don’t know why. My personalized configuration is correct but, in the game (Cinemaware’s Wings in the specific) they’re totally ignored and emulator acts as if they’re not set (menu is open with select+start and west button is the secondary function you said). Anyway it’s not that important, as an autopause function in the menu will solve all the issues.
I’ve a last question, I’d like to play Cannon Fodder after Wings and that game have a special action pressing left and right mouse buttons at the same time (launches bombs and missiles). Unfortunately Apple Magic Mouse doesn’t seem to support both buttons down. Is there a way to circumvent that? Thanks and sorry for all these questions, your emulator really rocks!

Is there any easy way to record video out from FS-UAE? Other than using some sort of Screen Recorder? I’m on a Mac. Wanting to record video animation. Wondering if there would be a easy way to out to the new Syphon Recorder project. Amazing app, records full screen resolution without killing your processor. Records from video mixer apps like Modul8 and Arena right now.

I ‘ve bought an adapter USB to Serial for my good old fashioned Amiga Joystick. I just can’t get that work. No option at FS UAE at ‘Mouse & Joystick Ports’ at Joystick for a new port. Only ‘No Host device’, ‘Mouse’, ‘Cursor Keys and Right Ctrl-Alt’. How can I use the USB 2 Serial adapter?
Comment on Frequently Asked Questions by FrodeSolheim
Hi, unfortunately you cannot use a USB serial adapter at all for this purpose – Amiga joysticks are not serial devices. I can understand your confusion though, since serial cables also use the same 9-pin connector as the Amiga joystick port. Instead, you need an adapter which allows you to connect an Amiga joystick and which converts it to a “USB joystick device”. There are several such Amiga/retro joystick to USB adapters available, I have one of these and it works well: http://www.retronicdesign.com/.
Comment on Using Hard Drives by jotego
It is possible to partition and format a compact flash from Linux using the following commands.
Assume the CF is /dev/sdc and that the current user has R/W access rights to it. Then this line should be added to the configuration file of FS-UAE:
hard_drive_0 = /dev/sdc
Once you add that line the GUI may have problems accessing that configuration file so you should start fs-uae from the command line.
Start with the workbench install floppy (version 3.1) and check for the HD tools. Right click on the icon and select information from the menu. Change the SCSI parameter to:
SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=uaehf.device
now you should be able to partition the drive and format it using FS-UAE. The drive then can be used from the real Amiga.
Once the drive is partinioned and formatted, you can also mount it directly from linux using a command like:
mount -t affs /dev/sdc1 /mnt
Have Fun!

Yes, it would be possible to create such as boot disk. It is also possible to auto-start the game with the file S/Startup-Sequence on the hard drive.
(Also, some recognized HD-games in the online game database (oagd.net) support auto-booting via a feature which automatically creates S/Startup-Sequence for the game).
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by Darek
Hi there,
I have trouble configuring the second pad. I managed to fix the first one like that:
# gamepad 1
[default]
include = universal_gamepad
hat_0_left = dpad_left
hat_0_right = dpad_right
hat_0_up = dpad_up
hat_0_down = dpad_down
axis_0_neg = lstick_left
axis_0_pos = lstick_right
axis_1_neg = lstick_up
axis_1_pos = lstick_down
#button_10 = lstick_button
axis_2_neg = rstick_left
axis_2_pos = rstick_right
axis_3_neg = rstick_up
axis_3_pos = rstick_down
#button_11 = rstick_button
button_0 = west_button
button_3 = north_button
button_2 = east_button
button_1 = south_button
button_8 = menu_button
button_9 = start_button
#button_12 = menu_button
#button_4 = left_shoulder
#button_6 = left_trigger
#button_5 = right_shoulder
#button_7 = lstick_right
It’s right there:
/home/uzytkownik/Dokumenty/FS-UAE/Controllers/dragonrise_inc_generic_usb_joystick_12_5_1_0_linux.conf
That is, one file only.
I try to follow FrodeSolheim’s advice, but still, in the end I only get one file and for one pad only. What should I do? Any ideas?
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by Jens Andesson
Hi Frode, And thanks for the amazing work on FS-UAE. I am having a great time with it.
One small thing: I appear to be having an issue similar to e789 above. I have two Wiimotes connected via WJoy on OSX Mavericks and with FS-UAE 2.2.3. They present themselves as two different devices (no “#2″), and although I have configured them with identical custom controller config files, they only work in port 1 (even though I have set port 0 to “Joystick” mode). I can switch which Wiimote I use at runtime with the F12 menu, but neither of them work in port 0.
I will email you the config and log files in case it helps (and if you have time to look at it), but I’m posting it here just in case anybody else is having the same issue.
Best regards, Jens
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by FrodeSolheim
Hi, if both devices work (individually) in the joystick port, but not in the mouse port, then something is fishy. Please send config and log to frode@fs-uae.net (Ideally, send fs-uae.log after you have tried to start with both joysticks in separate ports).
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by FrodeSolheim
Hi, if the second device is the same as the first one, they are supposed to share config. Please set up the launcher to use both gamepads (one in each port), start FS-UAE, close it down after confirming it does not work, and send the resulting FS-UAE.log.txt to frode@fs-uae.net
Comment on Video Options by FrodeSolheim
Sorry, there’s no video recording feature built-in, and none is really planned for the immediate future :-/
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by Jens Andesson
Ah, something was in fact fishy. I think it was an error on my end — I had log files and everything packaged up to send to you and then thought I should in fact check it one more time. Lo and behold, now everything is fine. Apologies for the confusion.
I will email you the minimal config file for the Wiimote (directions+fire button), just in case you want to include it in a future version of FS-UAE. (In fact, Wiimotes via WJoy identify with different IDs so perhaps it is not so useful, but I’ll send it anyway.)
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by FrodeSolheim
Hi, I checked the log file you send me, and everything looks fine except one thing: Port mode of joystick port 0 is set to mouse – it needs to be switched to joystick mode when you want to use a secondary joystick.
Comment on Custom Controller Configuration by Darek
Hi there, You were right about the modes, I didn’t set it right. I changed it the way you told me to and it works. I can’t believe I overlooked it Thanks once again! I think this emulator is really great. It would be even greater if you could load profiles not just floppy discs during the game after pressing F12. Then you could control everything with the pad only.

Thank you so much for this great application
I am currenlty using the mac os x port of your application and its trully amazing!
One quick question… is it possible to install fs-uae to my crunchbang linux installation?
Comment on FS-UAE Forum & Support by FrodeSolheim
Hi, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. FS-UAE should work on any Linux distro (but it might need to be compiled for it first if there are no precomiled packages for the distro).
I don’t officially support / test with Crunchbang Linux, but it seems Crunchbang is based on Debian (7.0), so you can probably use my Debian 7.0 packages or set up your Linux to automatically install the latest version from the deb repo.
Remember to install both the fs-uae and fs-uae-launcher packages (and fs-uae-arcade if you want that)
